The Little House, Changing Seasons

November 19, 2016

A central theme of our story this week is change over time. The little house watches the changes from day to day, season to season, and time period to time period. Changes are a big concept for preschoolers. Our Counting Stars activity provided opportunity to talk about daily changes and today’s activity is a great introduction to seasonal changes!

Like usual we started out by reading the story but this time we stopped and really studied the pictures of each season noting the differences (snow, swimming pools, apple trees, etc.) Then we got ready to finger paint!

MJ used the story as a guide for decorating the leaves on the trees for each season. We talked about our favorite things to do in each season. I’d ask her questions like:

  • Do we go swimming when it’s cold or hot?
  • Is Summer cold or hot?
  • What season do we go swimming in?
  • When do the snowflakes fall?
  • When do the leaves change colors?
  • What season are we in now?

I created this fun printable just for this activity and I want to share it with you!
