Our Favorite Ocean Books

July 22, 2019

One of our favorite parts of Learn + PLAY activities are combining them with great picture books! We love to read and how wonderful is it when we learn something new along the way too! Here is a short list of some of our favorite Ocean themed books. Mom Hack: Put the books on hold at your local library a week or so before you start your calendar that way they’re available and ready in time. And there’s no stress hunting down books when it comes time to pick out new books!

As an extra help, I’m linking up a few of the books that have YouTube videos.

Hooray for Fish by Lucy Cousins

A sweet rhyming story in classic Lucy Cousins style! Explore all kinds of fun and imaginative fish!

Ocean Babies by Deborah Lee Rose

Bright and colorful this precious book is a fun way to explore all the different kinds of animal families. From where they live, what they eat, how they travel, and more. I like how it shows all different species and their babies in a very simple level.

I'm the Biggest Thing in the Ocean by Kevin Sherry

Another colorful fun book! This is a great story for little ones and a perfect companion to any size or comparison activity!

Fish Eyes by Lois Ehlert

Ocean fun and counting with bright colorful fish! My youngest loved the board book version of this story!

Clumsy Crab by Ruth Galloway

I love this adorable story of a little crab named Nipper. He’s not so sure of himself until he discovers how special he is and how valuable his claws are!

A Swim Through the Sea by Kristin Joy Pratt

At the Beach by Anne Rockwell

We can’t study the ocean without talking about the beach! This fun book covers every step from what to pack, what you smell, to lifeguards and sea creatures on the shore!

The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister

This classic story of kindness, friendship, and including others is a perfect book to include in our ocean studies.

All these stories pair perfectly with the Open Ocean Learn + PLAY calendar!  Be sure to check it out!
