Chatted about spelling based off of the girls writ

Chatted about spelling based off of the girls writing activities and journals today in stories. I guess I’m just pretty excited to discover something that’s really working! 💗 I’ll save the stories to a highlight if you’re on the hunt for a new spelling idea!

Trying something different for October. The spelling list idea isn’t going as well as I hoped. It worked great when I (20+ years ago) was in school. It’s how I learned to spell, but it’s not for this cute crew of mine. Instead of using the program I bought we are going to make personal spelling lists to work on based off of the girls’ writing.

I have the girls journal daily. I don’t check their spelling or examine their work. It’s purely a place to write and enjoy. They use my day starters, they copy Bible verses, or sometimes they get an idea of their own and write all about it. No pressure, very gentle, but consistent writing. Copy work is typically done on days they feel less than inspired. 😜

For spelling, I decided I would discretely go through their recent writing and identify commonly misspelled words. “Tricky words” you might call them. 😉 And then create an engaging activity for them to use to practice those words until they learn them. If they don’t master a word or two then those words will stay on the list for the next week.

We’re wrapping up Fall break this week and I’m getting all set for the rest of October. It’s going to be such a sweet month! I’m talking all things organizing in my stories today. From printing and prepping all the things, storing them in totes, planners and powersheets I think we’re just about set.

This week @cultivatewhatmatters launched their 2022 powersheets collection! They are not only beautiful but so very helpful! As stay at home mamas and homeschooling mamas we are the administrators of our homes (scheduling appointments, planning activities, arranging extra curriculars, etc) Powersheets help clear mind clutter, evaluate the nice-to-do’s vs. need-to-do’s, and create a plan to cultivate what truly matters. I’ve used and loved them for several years and can’t wait to put my 2022 set into action 💗

It’s the hardest job you’ll ever LOVE.

Shared a little about gentle motherhood and the almost supernatural strength(!) it takes to love our families well. Motherhood will quickly push you beyond what you think your capacity is, but that is where motherhood meets the Lord and His strength. When we belong to Him, He promises to meet us and lavish us with grace to walk worthy of His calling. We are able when we abide in Him.

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of JOY; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm‬ ‭16:11

Those aren’t just pretty words to hand-letter. They are a powerful truth and if we really know Him, those words completely change everything. 💗 Does it make caring for our children easier, not always. Does it re-establish where we hang our hope so we can walk faithfully, absolutely.
