Book studies are great ways to build comprehension skills for new but fluent readers. After your reader can effectively decode and read words and stories you'll transition to reading chapter books.

Dear Mr. Henshaw is a classic Beverly Cleary story with a lovable and relatable main character, Leigh. He struggles to make friends in his new school and discovers friendship in unlikely places. He wrestles with big life changes and family tensions. His love for writing develops from his love for a favorite book and author.
This story inspires readers to consider writing as a tool to share ideas and think through questions. You may even find your reader interested in keeping a daily journal or diary similar to what the main character of this story does!
Each entry in the story has corresponding vocabulary work and/or comprehension questions.
This resource also includes a little geography work and a mini project learning about a business letter and how to write one!
