Let’s Explore Arizona!

Today’s state exploration took us to a very sunny and sandy state- Arizona! This is state number 3 in our project exploring all 50 states! For our exploration today we looked through several books, watched two short YouTube videos and did a really fun craft! (I shared a time lapse of it here.) As usual we started with exploring the basic facts for the state. We looked for information about the state- things like the state capital, year of statehood, state abbreviation, state nickname, etc. Our local library has a great collection of books perfect for state studies! The ones we used are from the non fiction reference section:

After we finished the front page we started our craft activity because I knew it was going to take a little longer. I printed the Arizona state flag (new resource coming soon from my resource collection). And we "colored it in” by using scrap pieces of construction paper.

After we finished the craft we turned to the back page of the Arizona state facts sheet and the state flag was super easy to color in because we’d spent so much time creating a mosaic of it!

There isn’t a state song video from Nat Geo kids for Arizona so we watched a different video from them about a petrified forest. It wasn’t great because it referred to the trees as being millions of years old along with other references to evolution but it did include some facts about fossilized trees and the process of decay over time. I’ll link it here but navigate with caution.

We also watched a video about the Grand Canyon and one about the Hoover Dam.
